Sustaining lifelong learning can be done through two methods one is creating a personal learning network (PLN) and the second is mentorship. Personal learning networks consist of nodes which are people, digital devices like our cell phones, information sources whether it’s online for example the Internet or off-line say a library. Through these different nodes we share collaborate and learn from each other. In a mentorship there is the mentee and the mentor. For the mentee, this partnership is important because it creates opportunities for critical reflection, and they get a support from their mentors. For the mentor, they get a renewed sense of commitment and an enhanced sense of satisfaction by assisting less experienced learners. (Barrette-Ng, 2019).
For my artifact I have chosen my personal learning network and I have a hand-drawn image attached below if you want to refer. In this image you can see my PLN cloud in the middle and I have for nodes: social media, schools, my work and my friends and family.
In terms of people connected to me to these platforms from social media I have all my friends that can easily contact me I could use Pinterest for ideas on LinkedIn for jobs. From school I have friends from high school who I talk to occasionally about everything going on in my life. There are people I met during my time at the U of M, when I was in the study body and now the alumni connections I have built.
In terms of my current Job, and I have Deidre who is my people manager, and she is also one of the people I know and look up to. She would be one of the experts in my area of interest. Other specific information sources I have is the learning.mit.ca site where we get our daily assignments and knowledge.
I chose this artifact because it is evidence of my plan and shows how much I understand the skill and I would like to increase the number of nodes I have on there.
